What makes reptiles and amphibians so fascinating?

Reptiles and amphibians are fascinating because they represent an incredible diversity of life that many people rarely get the chance to observe up close. From their unique behaviours and adaptations to the variety of environments they inhabit, these animals show just how creative evolution can be.

They also challenge many of the misconceptions people have about them. When people take the time to learn about reptiles and amphibians, they often discover that these animals are far more complex, intelligent, and important to ecosystems than they first realised.

Important Figure

Sir David Attenborough has been a lifelong inspiration to Gary. Through his ground breaking wildlife documentaries, Attenborough has helped generations of people develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of the natural world, inspiring Gary’s own passion for wildlife and conservation.

A Bit About Me

Gary has had a lifelong passion for wildlife and the natural world. Growing up with a fascination for animals, he spent much of his early years exploring nature, learning about different species, and developing a particular interest in reptiles and amphibians.

Like many people with an interest in wildlife, Gary credits much of his early inspiration to the documentaries of Sir David Attenborough, whose work helped spark a deeper curiosity about biodiversity, conservation, and the importance of understanding the natural world.

Over the years, Gary has gained practical experience working with animals and supporting educational activities that help others develop an appreciation for wildlife. He has a particular interest in helping people overcome misconceptions about reptiles and amphibians, encouraging a greater understanding of their behaviour, ecology, and role in the environment.

At The Reptile Academy, Gary plays an important role in supporting day-to-day operations, assisting with animal care, and helping visitors and students engage with the animals in a safe, responsible, and educational way. His enthusiasm for wildlife and approachable nature help create a welcoming environment for everyone who visits the centre.

Gary strongly believes that education and hands-on experience are some of the most powerful ways to inspire people to care about animals and conservation.
